Show or Tell

The goal in our Montessori program is to help each child reach his or her full potential in all areas of his or her life. The classroom activities support the development of cognitive skills as well as social skills, emotional growth, and physical coordination. Montessori is synonymous with hands-on learning, which provides children the opportunity to learn by doing.

Dorothy and Donald Barry first introduced the Montessori concept to central Louisiana in 1978. They opened the Montessori Children's House with five students. The school has changed locations four times and has now grown to have over 130 students.

In the fall of 1996, the school moved to the present location, 4209 North Bolton Avenue. The building was specifically designed for Montessori environments. The campus is located on 2.7 acres of land, and includes two outdoor classrooms, a natural garden and pond area, along with a large playground area.

Pond is currently undergoing renovation

The pond provides the students with many opportunities.  In this environment, they might hold poetry classes, study the plants, receive inspiration for art projects, or engage in science experiments.
