HISTORICAL ORIGINS

Dr. Maria Montessori developed the 'Montessori Method of Education' in the early 1900's. She was one of the first few females who graduated from medical school at the University of Rome during this time and based her educational theories on her scientific observations of young children's behavior. While the Montessori Method was introduced in the United States as early as 1912, interest decreased until the mid-1950's. Today there are thousands of Montessori schools throughout the world.

Dr. Montessori's philosophy believes that a child will learn best within a prepared environment that is designed to facilitate independent learning and exploration, as this will support their individual development.
